New year, new things, right? This is the first of what I call marathon reviews. Well, while we wait on new releases, here are some 2014 to occupy your playlist. So in no particular order here goes…
1. 8L – YellowBone (Feat. P.O.Y, N.I.C & Covill James)
From the first day I heard this track during P.O.Y and N.I.C’s (no relation) recording sessions I knew that this track was gon be a hit, having peaked at #1 on The Power FM Charts. You may have noticed the distinct iKoNik Musik tag at the beginning, recording and mastering was done at iKoNik Musik Studios. The beatmaker, however, is yet to be disclosed.
The name Covill James may be familiar from the Boyz Remukute Remix, reviewed previously on this blog. He was the hook killer on this one, giving us that unforgettable, infectious hook that stubbornly stays in your head. Hona!
The new name here is N.I.C, who is part of 8L’s Clientele group, who delivers a 3rd verse that you may mistake for one from Nicki Minaj.
A turn-up track that will make those nights out a lot more memorable. We love our women in all flavours nut this one is for the caramel ones a.k.a yellowbones! Hona, Hona!!!

2. Cashbid – Full Moon At Midnight (Feat. Taz Da Prince & Fab Johnson)
Yes, you heard right! This is the same beat you heard on Fun_f’s God. Apparently it’s now a hip-hop riddim (with an official remix, this version and others in the pipeline).
Cashbid’s been a busy man lately, having featured on Mcpotar’s Imma Beast and SpekkTrumn’s Expensive Time, after previously having last dropped The Realest.
This time he chose to collaborate with State-Of-Art members Taz Da Prince and Fab Johnson (who were responsible for ‘The Plague’).
The Eminem influence can be heard in Cashbid’s delivery for this track. I love the hook, the singing risk paid off, my thoughts anyway.
This is a track not to be slept on and if you’re a stranger to Cashbid you can get more of his tracks you can check them out at http://soundcloud.com/cashbid.
Cashbid’s mixtape-turned-album Lyrical Redesign is expected to drop sometime in 2015.

3. Taz Da Prince – Work
Taz does a solo here and if you have previously heard him spit, you know he brings the heat. The new school is upon us. The older generation better make way. The Hitmen, as usual, handled production here.

4. Kritic Igwee – The Weekend
Another soundtrack to those late nights, coming from Mutare's own Kritic Igwee. It doesn't matter if it's not the weekend yet, you can still make everyday be like a weekend.

5. Jnr. Brown – Mariia (Feat. Gze) (Prod. By McZee)
The circumstances surrounding the leak/release of this track are controversial, with reference to Noble Stylz’ line in Nyanzvi about never dropping like Morning Glory (which happens to be Jnr. Brown’s album name, in case you’ve been living under a rock).
Trust J. Breezy to bring the heat. The intro is a staggering 2 minutes long, which I think should’ve been maintained for the album version and removed from the single version.Upcoming MixMasters producer McZee made the soundtrack to this instant hit.
This is a dope track, apparently the second single from the long-awaited Morning Glory album, which shows that Breezy is a force to be reckoned with in Zim Hip-Hop circles. Before listening to the track you might think that this is a love song about some girl called Maria but this is a track lamenting about money and fame, “mari iya” (clever use of language, if I must say so myself). Gze brings that laid-back pimp-type of flow to the track, proving that this is no random feature. This is a dope track that will be on a lot of playlists for a long time to come.
I hope that this means that Morning Glory will finally see the light of day in 2015, as it was starting to seem like Dr. Dre’s Detox album.
